My Writing

The Sisters-in-Law Back Home
In the dog days of summer, Yiyang’s sun presses straight down on your skull, so harsh you can only squint into the light. The air becomes a giant steamer; open the door and a wave of heat pushes you back, searing your skin. My hometown’s summers have always lived in my memory as a haze of dizziness—streets nearly empty, silence so deep it rings in your ears. Along the embankment of the Zi River, weeds and grasses stretch across the slope. Their leaves are no longer green, but

Talking Art with a Young New Yorker
Autumn has slipped away. Returning to my blog drafts, I found an essay that should have been finished in summer and somehow dragged its feet all the way into early winter. My procrastination is clearly in its advanced stage. Still, I should sit down and finish it—let writing become a habit, a small act of self-care against the quiet erosion of age. Toronto’s summers are never oppressively hot. The air is almost unreal in its clarity—everything you see looks as if a contrast f

SOLD: Lotus Pond
This is a lotus pond I finished a few summers ago. Most of the time, I would use color to express such scenery, but this time what touched me more was not the color, but the shape of the dense lotus leaves in the pond. They are large and small, overlapping each other, depending on each other, vying to grow upwards and compete for the sunlight. After I finished the painting, it really touched a friend, and she bought it to hang in her home.

SOLD: Red Leaf Valley
My painting, "Red Leaf Valley," was selected for the 2025 Salt Springs National Art Prize (SSNAP), Canada's largest biennial contemporary art competition and exhibition. Nearly two thousand artists submitted their works, and 53 were ultimately selected. The painting was acquired by a collector in British Columbia on the first day of the exhibition.

SOLD: Spring Forest
This is an abstract work inspired by a spring forest, with its lush, multicolored branches. I attempted to express the vibrant life force of everything through abstract lines. This painting has been collected by a client in the United States.

SOLD: Raindrop
Another commission completed. The client needed two paintings for his study, in an abstract style. His study room wall paint was rather dark, making the room feel a bit oppressive. He wanted two paintings to brighten the tone and make the colors more vibrant. This is the second one finished. Custom painting is about combining market demand with one's own taste. Fortunately, these two things don't conflict. I wouldn't call myself an artist, but rather a decent craftsman, and I

SOLD: Vegetable Triptych
The client moved from California to Connecticut, and after moving into her new, empty home, she was reluctant to leave the walls bare. She contacted me to buy paintings, selecting several existing pieces and commissioning a few new ones. This is a small triptych for the side wall of her dining room, depicting various vegetables, including, of course, her favorite chili peppers. Even when she's abroad, she can often look at this painting to satisfy her cravings.
