A Portrait Between Two Traditions

Created for a female entrepreneur with a deep appreciation for art and Chinese culture, this commissioned portrait brings together contemporary realism and the timeless beauty of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Rather than serving as a simple backdrop, the iconic Song Dynasty landscape reflects the sitter's admiration for Chinese artistic heritage and creates a dialogue between personal identity and a thousand years of cultural tradition.

Painted in egg tempera, one of the oldest painting mediums in history, the portrait features a distinctive velvety matte surface unlike the glossy finish of traditional oil paintings. The medium allows for remarkable precision, luminous color, and quiet depth, giving the work a timeless presence.

More than a faithful likeness, the painting celebrates the client's passion for art, culture, and history. It is a portrait not only of an accomplished entrepreneur, but also of the values, curiosity, and cultural heritage that continue to shape her journey.
