Still Life

Welcome to our "Still Life Acrylic Painting" course, designed specifically for teens aged 10–18! In this class, students will explore the world of acrylic painting and learn the techniques and principles of still-life art. Acrylic paints are vibrant, fast-drying, and versatile, making them an excellent medium for young artists to develop their skills. The course guides students in accurately rendering forms through observation while encouraging creative use of the medium, helping them build a solid foundation in painting.

What You Will Learn:
Acrylic Painting Fundamentals: Master basic techniques—such as color mixing, brushwork, and layering—to create still-life paintings rich in depth and texture.

Composition and Layout: Learn to set up and compose a still-life scene, focusing on balance, proportion, and perspective to create visually engaging artwork.

Color Theory and Mixing: Understand the basics of color theory (primary, secondary, and complementary colors) and learn to mix colors effectively to create a realistic and dynamic palette.

Light and Shadow: Develop an understanding of light, shadow, and reflection, and learn how to use them to convey the three-dimensionality and realism of objects.

Detail and Texture: Explore specific brushstrokes and painting methods to render the textures of various materials, such as glass, fabric, metal, or wood.

Creative Expression: While focusing on realism, students are encouraged to infuse their work with their own artistic style and creativity for a unique visual expression.



Materials Needed:
 

• Acrylic paints (basic set including primary colors, black, and white)

• Assorted brushes (flat, round, and detail brushes)

• 9x12 inch (or larger) canvas or acrylic painting paper

• Palette (for mixing colors)

• Container for water (for rinsing brushes)

• Paper towels or a cloth (for cleaning and drying brushes)

• Palette knife (optional; for mixing or applying paint)

This course is ideal for teens looking to enhance their painting skills, particularly in the areas of still-life observation and acrylic painting.
